We use the MS SQL 2008 R2 standard with 10CALs server to host our case management software. It makes searching through thousands of files and millions of pieces of information remarkably simple. There is no question it has increased our efficiency. I've found that using SQL Server has been smooth sailing ever since we've set it up. As long as you know how to use SQL properly, everything should be a walk in the park
You get everything with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard 10 cals. A fully functioning database, ETL tool, report server, and multidimensional analysis server. All included in one low price. Features are being added quite frequently, and the software assurance license makes sure you have the best features for the next couple years. It can seem a bit fragmented at times. But that is only because there is so much available to you. The documentation out there does require someone with the base knowledge of SQL and programming in general. Biggest problem for me is the separation of PowerBI away from SSRS. That really should be included all together. It is a shame they separate it.
As an Analyst it was good to use an industry standard and reliable tool that was relatively easy to use. Code completion in the Server Management Studio works really well, unlike some of the tools for open source equivalent tools. Full functionality vs other DBs like MySQL, so I was able to complete complex tasks at the database rather than reporting layer which sped analysis time up considerably. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard w/10 cals makes pulling reports an easy task. Being able to view all of the tickets processed in one month on one spreadsheet divided by companies, yards and dates is an amazing thing when looking for just one ticket, let alone what MyChoiceSoftware offered.
