I have worked with several Database products, and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 - User CAL license is the easiest. We use it for our light-weight applications, because it is easy to manage and easy to train our new employees. It comes with a GUI interface, and the databases are pretty much "plug and play". Is designed for the management of many information at the same time, its speed in processing. It can be used for the design of related databases, in small and large companies, making more efficient the management of the information, its traceability and its audit.
Whether they advertise it a lot or not, Microsoft invests heavily in SQL Server core database engine in every new version. Back in the old days, a nine-table join was a recipe for disaster; now it's no big deal. The same holds true for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 - User CAL license: You can expect better overall performance when compared side-by-side to older versions, and better performance is always a reason to consider an upgrade. It allows you to easily create databases with huge amounts of data. With sql server we can create store procedures that help us extract data from the company data warehouse and, using reporting services, create reports with them. When the size of the tables becomes important the performance decreases drastically and requires a lot of hardware resources.
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 - User CAL is relatively easy to use, both from DBA and developer perspectives, great functionality has been added over the years and improved performance to handle large databases and tables. I also really like and use the other tools that are part of MS-SQL: SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, etc. What I like most about this software is that it is fully functional with so many different types of software!
