Three deployment choices

Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012 provides a single infrastructure, and consistently great remoting experience even over WAN while offering three deployment choices to reduce the cost appropriate to the needs of the user. The administration is simplified and platform hooks are provided for partner extension to provide additional value and solutions.

Move to new hardware if needed

You'll need to purchase RDS Client Access Licenses (CALs) and install them on the RD Licensing server. These RDS CALs are tied to the server, but RDS lets you move them to new hardware if needed.

Choose right model

The model you choose should depend on whether you have more users or computers. RDS does not have concurrent-user licensing, and the licenses you choose must match the mode for which you configure the RD Session Host server.

Licensing Requirements

You must have a license for each connecting user or device to connect to an RD Session Host server.

  • Once the licensing grace period is past, you must have a license for each connecting user or device to connect to an RD Session Host server.
  • You'll also need to install an RD Licensing server.
  • You can install the RD Licensing role service on the same server the service isnt very demanding or on a separate server.

After installation

Install the RD Licensing role service just as you did the RD Session Host role service. Then you must:

Activate the RD Licensing server
Install RDS CALs so the RD Licensing server can allocate them to users and devices
Tell the RD Session Host server to use the RD Licensing server
* You must do this even if the two role services are located on the same machine

Virtualize an RD Session Host server

Note that

  • You can virtualize an RD Session Host server, but youll likely see a reduction in the number of simultaneous sessions it can support. Be sure to model on the same machine type (physical or virtual) you intend to use.

Minimize cost

  • If you do build a virtual RD Session Host server, you should probably use a server with a processor supporting second-level address translation (SLAT) to reduce the overhead of memory mapping between the physical machine and the VMs. To reduce overhead, its also advisable to use a Type 1 hypervisor like Hyper-V, not a Type 2.

Powerful Thing

For me, my use of understanding Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Service 5 DEVICE CAL and cracking the efficiency of learning how relational databases are put together and used happened only after I began using Windows Server 2012 and began to understand and see the data structure dependencies that were exposed to me in my use of it. It's not so much a dislike as just being a dose of reality. A Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Service is an extremely powerful thing, as such there is much to learn about it and how to most effectively manage the database itself. Really diving in and getting a deep understanding of all the tools and features can be a pretty daunting task.


The license of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Service 5 DEVICE CAL allows you to have (in addition to an excellent engine of Relational DB) a complete package of tools that can help and secure your computer, mostly for business purposes. Database skills must be very specific and people who need to work seriously on 2012 Server must be passionate about data analysis, data manipulation, constant and careful monitoring of performance and Sql Server really makes available all the tools that can to do this.

Some issues, nothing too big

I like the easy way to query any data in any folder and the many options of server 2012, it helps me analyzing data, also I like the easy way to control the access to the live DB by granting users the appropriate permissions, also I like that I can preview data from more than one Windows server, and I can export data from one to another very easily. There are few things i dislike, particularly when it comes to coding and development in Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Service 5 DEVICE CAL, code reuse is pretty difficult to achieve. Performance tuning can be an issues sometimes.
