I have used Parallels since moving from a PC to a Mac about two years ago. I note that reviews posted here for Parallels Desktop 9 For Mac Retail Boxseem to be mostly either very good or very bad, which is striking. I guess it may depend on your particular configuration, but I am in the category of those that really appreciate Parallels. I liked version 3.0 with Windows XP; I am now using version Parallels Desktop 9 For Mac Retail Box. I used both versions with Leopard.
I have been around computers since the 80's and working in IT since the 90's. There has always been a big debate over which is better, a PC or a Mac. Well now we don't have to choose anymore. The truth is, these days you really need access to both environments. There aren't many companies that don't have at least one Mac. Yet the most popular business software is still written in Windows. In addition, the networks they run on are designed with Windows in mind. Along comes Parallels Desktop 9 For Mac Retail Box and gives us a virtualized PC world inside our Macs! Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac is said to be the most polished version yet. Easily beating out VMWare Fusion and Virtual Box. Coherence Mode is an excellent addition. Citrix has that same level of integration in the PC world, but I don't think it's been done in the Mac world until now. Shared Folders could prove to be very useful as well. I only wish the delivery was faster, i couldn;t wait for it to come!
Some of the difference that i note in 9 may be the change in the Microsoft OS, but the newer version for me is faster. It has a niftier interface, is easier to use, has improved USB management, offers alternative ways to structure the virtual machine (as a Mac window, in a "coherence" mode that facilitates interaction among Operating systems, and "modality", a transparent window that allows visibility while working in Mac OS), and the VM can recognize an external drive, which 3.0 did not.
