I'm typically a big fan of Microsoft administration tools, likely because I grew up with them. Some of the tools in the newer versions are slightly more difficult to find, but overall I'm happy with SQL Server 2017 Standard 1Device Client. There aren't a lot of useful tools when it comes to SQL server management. If you're writing custom scripts, the trace-ability to older revisions are difficult to manage in the software.
I have been using Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Standard - 1 Device Client Access License in the office for almost a year to manage large population and electoral databases, it has made it much easier to manage this data. The functions of handling of errors and processing in row are fantastic, it is stable and simple to use, the storage capacity is impressive and the technical support great. this program is a work of art. I like the ability to write complex queries and set up database tables and link servers. I am mainly a user of the product but the administration of our databases is made easier with all the integration packages available. I like the new function additions in the 2016 version.
Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Standard - 1 Device Client Access License is a solid database engine that will run without issues as long as you've got the hardware for it. The product is great. However, the cost is substantial. The licensing is a bit of a mess depending on what edition you run and varies across yearly editions. One version might be licensed by server while others are licensed by core. We'd like to see all versions licensed in a more standard fashion. We run about 20 SQL servers across the company reliably. We run various editions from Standard to Enterprise. The bulk of the servers host student information systems as well as point of sale systems. This means that data transactions are consistent throughout the day. We're also able to extract and mine data using SSMS for our data warehouse and ad hoc reporting needs. This has allowed our company to increase its business and are looking to expand in the very near future.
